Depends on the state on how they handle the paperwork.  Some states automatically file the extention for you, just file as you have and it will kick in after your 1st benefit runs out.  Check your state employment commission website also.  If you file your claim over the internet if should have a Q/A section on benefits.  North Carolina has it right on the 1st page.  If no answer from internet or on the phone, then you will have to go to the local employment office or risk losing your claim after it runs out.  The state will not care.

If you got the extension that Pres Bush approved than you can't get the one from Pres Obama. Thats what my unemployment office told me cause my benefits ran out in Feb this year.

Whey I ran into my extensions all I had to do was open a new claim for the first extension on a wen. Thats when they told me it would be on my page and then I had to do voucher on sunday still and my second extension automatically started itself
