Will Tennessee Receive Third Unemployment Extension?

I moved to TN 2 years ago from California with my family to find a job and buy a house. So far, nothing. There's no work here and now that we're here, we can't afford to go back so we're stuck. I was collecting unemployment from CA. CA, too, had several extensions and then passed a third called FED-ED. I was told I qualify since I exhausted my other benes and still hadn't found work. I got 1 check. Then nothing. After a week of calling back and forth I learned that I was disqualified from receiving FED-ED because Tennessee wasn't participating. What? I got that 1 check the first week of May. It's now July 1st. I have a disabled husband that can't work and we have 2 active kids that need everything. With no income it's been a struggle to stay above water. When TNs unemployment rate went to 10.7 percent in May, legislation was written for TN to get extended benes called HB2324. It passed the HOR in early June and passed the Senate on June 19th and was sent to the Governor. He signed it on June 26th and on June 30th, I received a phone call from the CA unemployment office saying that my check was in the mail because Tennessee is now participating. I qualify! So yes, Tennessee will get that 3rd extension so those of you here that haven't filed....DO IT NOW!! Good luck to you all!!!

Everyone that is unemployed in TN should bombard the above website and complain.  It appears to me that ALL of our representatives are sleeping on this.  Why do we vote people in that could care less about our needs?  I heard that there was a huge amount of people that benefits ran out on in April.  We need to pull together and control the voting block.  At this point I could care less about R or D.  I want someone that is going to help ME AND YOU.  Unfortunately, people who have been "chosen" to represent us are doing a poor job.  If anyone can get the word out, let's do it.  DO NOT VOTE FOR ANYONE THAT SAYS NAY TO UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENT IONS.  I ran out in March, have a B.S. Degree from A.P.S.you, and feel like I have been shafted.  This is absolutely ridiculous, they actually didn't vote on the 28th, they post-pone it.  Get for real, what if we post-pone their votes, for forever.

Tennessee unemployment rate as of March is a staggering 9.6%. I'd say this qualifies anyone who is a dislocated worker to get an extension of benefits. However, what makes sense and what really turns out are not usually paralell. If you've exhausted your regular UI benefits, AND, your EUC benefits, then, you might not qualify, unfortunately. According to the ARRA, anyone who has depleted their EUC is not going to get another extension.
So, here in TN, with the rate near 10%, what does a dislocated worker do when funds run out?
Rob a bank. They got most of federal funds so that THEY can recover.
Hey--Dunkin' Donuts offered me a job. The pay is less than what I earned when I was 18. I'm now 44 with two degrees. And, I can't even keep collecting my woppin' $200 per week. I guess the donut people will get a way overqualified worker who will accept way below what is fair compensation.
You see, this is how America is going to get back to work. Basically, high wage earners will go unaffected; middle income workers will be forced to earn less and low income workers will have to compete with those who really qualify for much higher wages but can't find jobs and can't get unemployment. So, I guess those at the bottom are going to go even further down. Should the proverbial bottom get plummeted by the very weight of all of those who've been dislocated.

According to the governors office...a bill passed the state legislature on June 2,2009..that would allow a third tier to go into effect. When and if the governor will sign it into law and when it would go into effect..is another question. But, at least they have acted and it seems that the extended benefits will be extended in accordance with the 59 weeks allowed in the stimulus bill.

Tennessee needs to pass a third employment extension for all that benefits have been depleted. There are no jobs out there and we need to have the government to help us like they help everyone else. Write to the state reps and try to get this bill passed. They need to know we all stand together on this matter and we are depending on them so we can survive during these uncertain times.

I have written the Governor's Office three times. Got an answer twice. Written to the the Senator and my House of Representatives as well. According to the Tennessean it was voted on, on May 27, and WSMV reported it had passed. I have written the Unemployment office and was informed the Governor was to sign the bill as early as June 1. Please write them all again. Drive them crazy until they do something.

I have found this site which will help a person locate their state representative and send a message urging them to pass legislation for the EB. Go to www.unemployedworkers.org and select "Act Now for Unemployment Benefits in your State" and you will be taken to an easy-to-use message to send to your congressmen. Make it as personal as you can so they know it's not a computer drone sending a message. Does anyone know if there has been any updates for TN? Also, any ideas on how we get this link above to more jobless Tennesseans? I imagine there are a percentage who cannot even afford computers or navigate email. The link above is very easy-to-use and automated. Please pass this along to as many Tennesseans or persons in other states affected you know who want to ask their congressmen/women to help.  Communication is our only hope.  They need to appreciate the need to make this a top priority.  I do not represent unemployedworkers.org but I believe this is a good cause with unemployment at the staggering levels it is.

I have 8 weeks left and cannot find a job. Will the extensions still be available in 8 weeks or will it take another act of congress?

Called this # and actually got a real person who answered on the 2nd ring 615-741-4030, he said the bill is waiting & ready for the gov to sign and the unemployment offices are working on getting their computers set up for EB benefits. He then gave me this # that we can call to hear updates as posted 615-711-1315 option #4....what it doesn't address is those of us who have exhausted all other extentions & are no longer rec. Any level of benefits right now, DO we have to reapply?? I am still confused....and he said not everyone would qualify for EB this time around, but he didnt know what the qualifications are...so....WE WAIT...

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR TENNESSEE RESIDENTS>

The Tennessee Department of Labor has stated that applications to apply for the latest unemployment insurance extension may do so online on December 11, 2009.  If you have exhausted your benefits and qualify for this extension, you will be sent a letter in the mail within the next week which will include a monetary determination and instructions for the application process.  Those who are currently getting unemployment insurance should automatically transition into this latest extension, if needed.
