That’s easy! If you registered over the Internet through the Employment Development Department, by completing the online form or via the mail, then it should be as simple as ringing the toll-free number provided by the government department. Once you call them up, you’ll be able to create a PIN number, provide the necessary details, and the status of your claim will be given to you right over the telephone.

But ask yourself this: Do you really need to get in touch? If you file through the Employment Development Department, you can be sure that you get a quick answer for your unemployment benefit claim! The department aims to provide you with an answer to you unemployment benefits claim within 10 days, and states that in order to get your reply as quickly as possible, you should ensure that you apply online. Filing on the Internet is easier, too, meaning that the whole process of obtaining your unemployment benefits can be made a whole lot easier.

As soon as your application has been submitted, and you’ve filed online, you will receive it within the aforementioned 10 days. Registering by phone could take longer given the sheer amount of people that are ringing up and trying to get in touch due to California’s higher-than-average 10 per cent unemployment rate.

You can be sure that applying online will reduce your need to check out the status of your benefits claim, but if you do want to find out about the status, all you need to do is ring up.

I am currently reviewing unemployment benefits, but I have not received a claim form for one month. Who do I find out about this problem?

As long as you don't make more per week then you would receive through your UI benefits then you'll still get them.

Thought the California State Department of Disability does provide information regarding status of a claim including the date when a check was mail out, I was unable to locate any similar service on California's Employment Development Department offers an online link where a person can check status of their claim.  It is also my opinion, that if you apply online and have not received any correspondence from EDD within 10 days, that you call them at (800)480-3287.

You can call to get your check information (800)300-5676 Press option 1 and then option 1 again then wait till she tells you to enter your social and then press 1 to verify that you entered the correct social and then enter your 4 digit pin and they will let you know when your last check was issued and how much it was for.

Yes, I'm having the same problem. I called and the person didn't have access to my records and put in a request to have the phone interview moved up. I also, emailed and told them (which is the truth) since they are holding my check, I don't have any money to refill my diabetes medicine.

If you have registered either by the web( edd has an online form you can fill out ), or by calling edd or by mail, then normally you can call the toll free number, create a p.I.n. # , then you can check on the status of your claim. Hope this helps
ps
if you file online edd is suppose to have an answer for you in 10 days. Edd states that online filling is the quickest way to receive your benefits once application has been submitted.
Reg. By phone, realize that the state of CA's unemployment rate is at a staggering 10%. So expect long delays but be patient someone will help.
