Any amount $10,000 and over will be flagged automatically to IRS.
But these days there is more vigilance by other govt folks due to alerts. Even if you keep depositing less than $10000 on a daily basis and/or frequently - there will be automatic notification to some agencies. Without proper documentation and source - it would be hard to get by. So if this is one-time deal - no problems, just do $9999 and it will not flag.
