- You can only claim for unemployment benefit if you have lost your job through no fault of your own. If you were fired or quit your previous job it may be possible that you are not eligible for unemployment benefit.
- There is a maximum time limit that you will be able to claim unemployment benefit, after this point it is accepted that you have had reasonable time to find a job. The time limit for this is 26 standard weeks.
- It is possible to have an extension at the end of the 26 weeks but that will need to be applied for at the end of the 26 week period. The extension can be for a maximum of 33 extra weeks.
