The Georgia Department of Labor looks after unemployment claims and job seekers in the state of Georgia. Without knowing how far along you are with your claim it would be impossible to tell you the status of your claim. The information you require would also need some form of reference number, which we do not suggest giving over a public forum.

The best piece of advice would be to contact the Georgia Department of Labor personally to inquire as to the status of your claim personally. From here the Georgia Department of Labor will also be able to give you help and advice on finding a job and the chance to chat with an expert on the subject of employment. If you have your social security number and know the PIN that the unemployment office would have given you when you registered with them, you will be able to log in here https://www.dol.state.ga.us/WS4-MW5/cics.jsp?TRANSID=BP15&FRMNAME=BP15A with those details to check on the status of your unemployment claim.

Each State in America has slightly different laws with regards to unemployment and unemployment benefits but it is generally viewed that:
  • You can only claim for unemployment benefit if you have lost your job through no fault of your own. If you were fired or quit your previous job it may be possible that you are not eligible for unemployment benefit.

  • There is a maximum time limit that you will be able to claim unemployment benefit, after this point it is accepted that you have had reasonable time to find a job. The time limit for this is 26 standard weeks.

  • It is possible to have an extension at the end of the 26 weeks but that will need to be applied for at the end of the 26 week period. The extension can be for a maximum of 33 extra weeks.
