In CA, EDD will either send a lump sum after you win your appeal, or send 3 checks at a time, with each check in the amount your benefits for 2 weeks. So your three checks, coming at one time, will be for a total of 6 weeks payments. I don't know how often they send these...every week...every two weeks....or every month. I have a feeling it's either every two weeks or every month. I can't get a straight answer from EDD, and every phone rep has their own theory, but has no concrete information...and I haven't received any checks yet.

If you need claim forms they didn't send you, don't wait...you might be screwing yourself. You are only eligible for benefits if you complete all claim forms, and do them in a timely manner, like when the form tells you to send it in on a certain date, send it in on that date...but not before! CALL or EMAIL them to request missing claim forms. You will only be granted back benefits if you have kept up with the claim forms and have ALSO kept up with your resume on the caljobs.gov website. If you haven't done that, do that now. (not that you haven't)

If they didn't send you claim forms for certain weeks, or your claim forms have stopped, you NEED to CALL a million times until you talk with a rep that has "access to your case". Most of the reps that answer the phones at EDD now only can answer general questions or send in an email request for you to a REAL rep that has access to your information.

I spent about 3 hours (not all at once) on the phone today trying to find out what is going on with my case, and kept getting a rep without access to info, they just have access to the EDD website, which is the same one you have access to. You can send EDD a emailed request under the contact EDD tab, then go though and pick what category best fits your question, and you are able to write specifics of your request. Leave your phone number in form where you can be reached during the day, even if it a cell. They will email you a response in most cases, or might have to call you if they need clarification about something. But getting claim forms should be an email response that forms are being mailed to you.

Did you just now file your appeal? I was fired on 10/15/09 for taking my husband to the ER, and ultimately my employer claimed misconduct. Filed for UIB over the phone the day after I was let go. EDD found I was let go for misconduct, since this is what my prev employer stated when questioned. Filed my appeal in December 2009. My appeal hearing was on 03/09/10. Just got my appeal decision in the mail yesterday, 03/11/10. The whole process took just under 5 months, but it's not over yet.

Now have to play the waiting game for my checks to start coming. Was told they don't have the judges decision in their system yet. Might take up to 20 days, so I've been told. I've also been told when they do get it, they might sent checks right away, or they might wait 10-30 days. The story always changes depending on who you talk to. If you end up calling a bunch of times, you can always ask the same questions and see what answers you get.

To everyone who reads this...good luck to all of us.

I received my notice that I won my appeal December 24, 2009.  I waited two weeks, and still heard nothing from the edd concerning my back pay, so I did some research.  As most of you know, right now the general 1800 number for edd is 99.9% impenetrable.  I found a number that allowed m to talk to a live person (415-351-7200).  If you don't get through the first time, keep calling, eventually someone will answer and hopefully direct you to someone who can help.

When I got through a few days ago and asked about my back pay the lady on the phone informed me that the edd is so backed up on work, that my claim hasn't even been looked at (bearing in mind that the edd has known for over two weeks that I won my appeal for benefits). She said that she would refer it to an "appeals specialist" and I would receive a "response" aka (check) in the mail within ten days.

Moral:  Be persistent and be your own advocate.  The edd is so overwhelmed right now that they really can't help you with urgency, unless you get through to them.

Best of luck.

I have been informed that my E.D.D. Claim was discontinued due to misconduct and without good cause.   On July 3, 2009, I was accosted by another temporary consultant who later brought her husband and his friend to confront me on the job.   Therefore, I felt unsafe and left the assignment.   However, I emailed my recruiter who was on vacation.   There was a mutual agreement between me and the recruiter that I would not return to the worksite and I was asked to return their badge which I did but it was damaged.   Therefore, the employer after almost 1 year is refusing to pay my unemployment.   Please advise

I've never heard of this working (going to your nearest office...). In California, there is no longer any unemployment offices the public can go to. All over the phone and online now. The EDD needs to receive the appeal hearing before they issue you a payment/s. You will get your copy before EDD gets theirs. Usually takes 10-30 days, so I'm told. Haven't got mine yet. Good luck!

You have to summit your claim forms. Eeven though the employer is appealing the decision, you still get paid. If you don't get a claim form, you need to call with in 10 days and ask for it. Just because there is an appeal doesnt mean you don't get paid. With that said, if you don't get a claim form, its not because of the appeal. There system messes up and so you have to request the claim forms and you will get paid regularly while your appeals goes forward. If you wait past 10 days, you cal loose all that money for the past weeks as they told me its your job to request the forms if they don't come automatically

I received notice that the appeal decision landed in my favor and so I am expecting an unemployment check, plus, I hope, some back pay.  They continue to fail to send my forms, I didn't know they were so disorganized and that I wouldn't be able to reach them so I am not sure what forms they have received and so I am afraid they will, after the fact, say that they don't have any of my paperwork and therefor have reason not to give me my unempoloyment.  You can't get through on any of these phone lines and so I have been emailing and get responses about 3 weeks later and don't really answer the questions I ask.....frustrating.  I am going to respond with any good information I get so that people get more help when they go through it b/c this sucks!!!

I had about the same thing happen to me  but then made me. 10 days after I got the letter saying I won the appeal and had no check I went in to edd. I had to fax a copy of the appeal to them 10 days later re-fax it. 10 days later told I need to talk to  the appeals people not edd and the transfered me to the appeals people. They sent me a check that got there 16 days later...  I was then owed the full first and 2nd extension. I was told if I didnt get that check for the first extension within 10 days to call back.the 1st extension had to be proceeded before 2nd one was. 10 days later contact edd  its under review. 10 days later being proceeded. 10 days later founds being transfered. 10 days later still being transfered. Its now jan 28 2010 and I am trying to get money from feb 2009 because of edd mistake in the first place. Don't count on EDD for anything even to follow there owen timetables or rules

04/17/2010 I recieved my award on 4/1/2010 after you wait the ten days you need to contact edd by phone or leave message with a rep on saturday if you can't get through during the week someone will call you back in three days, or you can send an email, but remember that they give your emp 20 days to respond then it takes 10 to 15 days to submit your claim forms provided that you sent all of them in . So it dose take any where from 30 to 45 days . Don't give up. Make sure all your claim forms get sent or you won't get paid when you do recieve your pmts ,, what I would like to know that is it true that you get multiple checks or one lump sum. Good luck ,,, Dottie San Diego ca.
