In CA, EDD will either send a lump sum after you win your appeal, or send 3 checks at a time, with each check in the amount your benefits for 2 weeks. So your three checks, coming at one time, will be for a total of 6 weeks payments. I don't know how often they send these...every week...every two weeks....or every month. I have a feeling it's either every two weeks or every month. I can't get a straight answer from EDD, and every phone rep has their own theory, but has no concrete information...and I haven't received any checks yet.
If you need claim forms they didn't send you, don't wait...you might be screwing yourself. You are only eligible for benefits if you complete all claim forms, and do them in a timely manner, like when the form tells you to send it in on a certain date, send it in on that date...but not before! CALL or EMAIL them to request missing claim forms. You will only be granted back benefits if you have kept up with the claim forms and have ALSO kept up with your resume on the caljobs.gov website. If you haven't done that, do that now. (not that you haven't)
If they didn't send you claim forms for certain weeks, or your claim forms have stopped, you NEED to CALL a million times until you talk with a rep that has "access to your case". Most of the reps that answer the phones at EDD now only can answer general questions or send in an email request for you to a REAL rep that has access to your information.
I spent about 3 hours (not all at once) on the phone today trying to find out what is going on with my case, and kept getting a rep without access to info, they just have access to the EDD website, which is the same one you have access to. You can send EDD a emailed request under the contact EDD tab, then go though and pick what category best fits your question, and you are able to write specifics of your request. Leave your phone number in form where you can be reached during the day, even if it a cell. They will email you a response in most cases, or might have to call you if they need clarification about something. But getting claim forms should be an email response that forms are being mailed to you.
Did you just now file your appeal? I was fired on 10/15/09 for taking my husband to the ER, and ultimately my employer claimed misconduct. Filed for UIB over the phone the day after I was let go. EDD found I was let go for misconduct, since this is what my prev employer stated when questioned. Filed my appeal in December 2009. My appeal hearing was on 03/09/10. Just got my appeal decision in the mail yesterday, 03/11/10. The whole process took just under 5 months, but it's not over yet.
Now have to play the waiting game for my checks to start coming. Was told they don't have the judges decision in their system yet. Might take up to 20 days, so I've been told. I've also been told when they do get it, they might sent checks right away, or they might wait 10-30 days. The story always changes depending on who you talk to. If you end up calling a bunch of times, you can always ask the same questions and see what answers you get.
To everyone who reads this...good luck to all of us.
