In short, it is not possible to open a bank account online with Woodforest National Bank. However, you can access banking facilities online if you are an existing Woodforest National Bank customer, with a bank account already set up.

It is not possible to open an account online due to security reasons. The safest and most secure way for banks, and their customers, to open new accounts is face to face in a branch, with proof of identity and other essential documents. Money is very important in today's society, and by disallowing the creation of bank accounts online, you can ensure that your money stays safe.

As I said earlier, it is possible to access details and facilities provided by Woodforest National Bank online if you have an existing account. By typing http://www.woodforest.com, and clicking on the personal banking icon, you will be able to log in to your online bank account. By activating your online bank account through proper communication with your branch of Woodforest National Bank, you can access the free features and services such as:

• Transferring money between Woodforest bank accounts
• Unlimited bill payment
• Bank balance and bank statement information, to help keep you up to date about the activity of your account, and help you identify theft and fraud
• Check reordering
• Email notifications of your balance and account activity

In order to log in to your Woodforest National Bank account online, you need a username and password, which will be given to you when you notify your bank that you wish to use the online banking facility. You then have the freedom to change your password to whatever you like. The Woodforest National Bank recommends that you change your online banking password every three months to help protect against fraud and hacking.

The procedure is probably almost the same at any bank.

Go to the nearest branch and tell them you want to open a checking account  They will give you a form to fill out (name, address, phone etc).  Make sure you have a picture ID and be over 18 (if under 18 you'll need a parent with you).

There may be different types of checking accounts (interest on checking, regular checking etc) so you will have to see which is best for you.  Most checking accounts have fees which are based on how much money you have in the account (low balance fees, request for new check fees and such).

Oh, one more thing - you have to have some money with you to deposit into the account or they won't open it.
