Bank needs to see a document called letters testamentary which is issued by the county courthouse probate court when someone files to open up an estate, no matter how big or how small the account is. Go to the county courthouse and file the paperwork to be executor/administrator--soon after filing you will receive letters testamentary which you present to the bank and they then issue the check so you can distribute it to the legal heirs.
If you are not on the account they will not give you any info .
