PA actually only gives you 26 weeks, but there are five federal tiers after this amount of time. Currently the unemployed are no longer eligible to move onto the new tiers, once the current tier expires. There is legislation that is currently pending, within Congress, in order to allow them to move onto new tiers. This legislation has not been passed, however.

You can apply online for your unemployment benefits in PA, or by mail, phone, or in person. An interview is sometimes required to get your unemployment benefits, but it’s generally possible to complete the whole process online, so it’s not difficult by any means. As well as submitting your application, you may also have to submit a resume to an online job search company, and/or report to a work center. This is to prove that you have the intention of finding somewhere to work.

You should check the requirements for continued participation with PA. You will likely be expected to look for work only within your field, and if you apply for jobs that are not in your field of expertise, you may have to attend career counseling courses. You’ll have to remain in the State, too, and be looking work, and ready able to start work if you are offered.

If you filed an unemployment claim any time within the last two years, and you are currently unemployed, you should get an unemployment benefits extension. Extended benefits are available during the times of economic crisis. This should offer between 13 and 33 weeks of additional benefits after the original amount you have been provided. You could also be eligible for extended benefits after the original state claim has actually expired. Get in touch with your local authority for more information.

Unemployment benefits in PA are for 26 weeks, then 20. Is there anything following the 20 weeks? Someone told me that you could claim another 13 weeks.
