Typically ALJs do not pronounce a decision straight away following the hearing. However, it is mandatory for them to inform you of outcome or the decision in writing. Alas, this process may take a while. Similar to a case that is heard at Disability Determination Services, an Administrative Law Judge is authorized to take as long as he sees necessary in order to render a decision when it comes to a disability claim.
While the average waiting time that is required after the hearing is roughly eight weeks, do not take this as a standard.
This is because each hearing office may be constrained by its individual backlog situation. In addition, some judges have a tendency to move though cases somewhat slower or faster than others.
