When receiving a lump sum severance pay in Georgia how long does it takes to receive unemployment ? What if you receive a 401 k payout will it delay unemployment ?
If you get paid a severance pay your unemployment will kick in after the amount of weeks for you severance is over.
Example:
If you are laid off and you get 8 weeks of severance, your unemployment will begin after the 8 weeks of pay is up.
Laid off on April 1
Receive 8 weeks severance
Unemployment will start on May 26.
This is for Georgia only

Follow up question - what if the separation package is basically the same as 5 weeks of the pay I was receiving before I was let go but it isn't delineated as such (just a lump sum). Will I be delayed unemployment for the 5 weeks or will it be determined based on how many weeks of unemployment pay are in the severance? Before I made about 2500K a week and now unemployment is 330.00 a week, so obviously that's a very big difference.
Vacation is not included in "disqualifying payments." ONLY severance.
What about 4 weeks severance and 3 weeks vacation.. Are the 3 weeks included when calculating when you will get paid?
I Thought vacation pay was separate from your severance and benefits would start after the 4 weeks severance were up?
