Taxes are withheld out of severance pay and how much is returned depends on your total income at the end of the year when you file your tax return. Your current tax preparer should be able to help "project" or estimate your situation for 2009. Contact them in about three weeks (after April 15th) and ask for help. Most are happy to assist!
