First, you MUST write to Perry!!! www.governor.state.tx.us you should also call (800) 252-9600 -- that's how things get changed, when they know their career is at stake. Get everyone you know to call or email saying they WILL NOT VOTE for him. Just complaining won't do the job, he has to hear that you won't vote for him!
There was an extension that Bush legislated & it extended you. Benefits for about 13 weeks. With Obama's stimulus plan, you would have been given an extension for THE REMAINDER OF 2009!!!! But Perry rejected the unemployment portion saying that there were strings attached that would hurt small businesses. Even The Unemployment Commission is asking Perry to reconsider saying they will run out of funds in October. Opponents say Perry could easily take the $$ then chnage things back after the funds are exhausted. While I'm still freaking out about this, after Perry announced he was screwing unemployed Texans, the democrats immediately started working on a bill to get the funds but Perry can veto that bill. The ONLY good news I have found is that while Nevada's gov. Had rejected the you. Funds too, on Wed. (the 25th) he changed his mind. Here's his statement:
As our economic crisis deepens, Nevadans are suffering because of layoffs, business closings and other cutbacks. We have the responsibility to do everything we can to help our unemployed workers get through these difficult times, even if that means passing legislation that we would not necessarily approve during prosperous times.
Hopefully, Perry will follow suit. Good luck finding a job, I've been out of work since last April with ONE offer for $11.45/hr --- it was just too far away. I have a Bachelor's Degree but these days, it just doesn't matter.
