There is no way of pinpointing particular companies that use marketing techniques poorly. However, there are ways in which marketing techniques can be used poorly.

  • If the marketing is not targeted efficiently
The entire purpose of marketing is to reach out to the demographic audience and get them to connect with the product that is being sold. However - some marketing campaigns do not seem to recognize this; aiming their efforts at the completely wrong audience. In turn, this could just lead to putting everyone off the product entirely.

  • If the marketing is targeted too much
Of course, it is important to have a demographic audience that you are aiming for. Without one, the product would float in the ether and pick up no success whatsoever. However, it is important to keep the demographic open where possible to maximize success and in turn income.

  • Having associations with good causes
In today's society, it is important to show consumers that your company is in touch with the good causes like charities and eco-friendly schemes. Of course, it is known that packaging of a product plays a large part in attracting customers. However, too much packaging is wasting resources and could therefore put customers off purchasing. Furthermore, showing any associations with charities and non-profitable organizations is bound to encourage consumers to invest.

It is doubtful that any company will intentionally use poor marketing techniques in an effort to influence buying behavior. However, there could be occasions where techniques intended to have a positive outcome have had a negative one instead.
