If you collect social security and you are also earning a certain amount of money, or in other words you are working then all of your benefits or sometimes few of them are withdrawn. These benefits are inoperative on temporary basis. Even if you start work after collecting social security the same policy is implemented.

I am getting prepared to start early SS retirement benefits,  I visited their local office and that was a big mistake.  The most incompetent collection of people I have ever seen in one location.  I can't call the local office, their phone is busy from 9 til 5.  I can't walk in and complete my paperwork without an appointment which I can't arrange because they don't answer the phone.  I am a veteran and paid SS taxes for 46 years but I may have to plead my case to my US Senator to simply apply for my benefits, not theirs, mine.  I'm not answering the question very well.
Yes, you can work but there is red tape as pencil indicated and if that means trying to work things out with these rude, totally uncaring incompetents, avoid it if you can.

I have worked while on ssi. They say they will help you and maybe they will. However they kept getting my paperwork fouled up. YOhave to send or turn in copies of your paystubs which they will take out of your pay from the Government. I had a minimum wage job for 12 hrs per week and they took $39.00 per month out of my check for 4 years for a 7 month job. They were not very nice. They kept figuring and refiguring the amt. The $20.00 that I was allowed to keep, paid for my gas. I tried several times to work, and it cost me more in the long run than not to work. That has been my experience for what it is worth.

How much do you have to earn a month to collect and how much do you get when you collect.
