The richest women in the UK
  • Kirsty Bertarelli is by far the richest woman in the UK. This is largely due to her husband's involvement in the pharmaceutical and bio technology industries. Her family is also very wealthy and owns the ceramic company Churchill China. Kirsty is also a talented singer and songwriter.
  • Charlene De Carvalho is the second richest woman in Britain (5.4 billion). Her father was the founder of Heineken, and her wealth is primarily inherited.
  • Third place goes to Swedish Kirsten Rausing who is reportedly worth £3.9 billion. Her family own the company Tetra Laval (which is worth over £7.5 billion). Her family have recently made headlines in the UK because Eva Rausing was found dead in her Belgravia mansion following several tabloid scandals involving hard drugs.

The richest woman in the UK is JK Rowling with a fortune of £280 million. She is also the 122nd richest person in the world taking a slot 11 places higher than the queen.

Rowling made her fortune by writing a famous children's book series called Harry Potter, which was later made to a series of cinematic films by Warner Bros.

Joanne Rowling was born in South Gloucestershire, England on 31 July 1965, on the outskirts of Bristol. Later in life, Rowling moved to Porto, Portugal to teach English as a foreign language. While there, she married Portuguese television journalist Jorge Arantes.

The couple had one child, Jessica Isabel (was named after Rowling's heroine, Jessica Mitford), before divorcing in 1993.
In December, 1994, Rowling moved with her daughter to Edinburgh, Scotland, to be near her sister. Unemployed and living on state benefits, she completed her first novel, doing some of the work in local Edinburgh cafe's, whenever she could get Jessica to fall asleep.
