Unless you are the spouse of the person that has filed the taxes, or you have done it yourself, there is no way of finding out if they have been filed. From a legal perspective, this activity has nothing to do with you. If you believe that the filing of the taxes could have a direct impact on you, however, then you could ask about the taxes. For instance, if you believe that you could be liable for unpaid tax, then you can probably get in touch with your local government office or other nearby authorities to discuss the problem. Explain to them your concerns, and it’s down to them whether there is anything they can do, or if they will be able to suggest anything to you.

Filing your taxes is really important. If you do not file a tax return, then you will have instant IRS issues. The Tax Code that you use has specific time line or statutes of limitations that are set out so those who do not file can be easily and quickly pursued. Hence, the chances are that you will be caught, and you will face major issues if you continue to avoid the payments that you are required to make.

There are criminal charges that you could potentially face, too. Criminal charges will be brought against you within six years of when the tax return was actually due. Civil cases can be brought against you, and there will be no deadlines for these cases to be brought about. The penalties and interest will be assessed based on the tax return that was due in the first place.

This information is only available to the person who files or their spouse. If this affects you in any way - ie if you could be liable for unpaid tax - then you can ask about it, but otherwise the information is private. You could try contacting your local government office and explaining the problem, and see if they can suggest anything.
