Found this from April 15 but don't know what is happening.

In normal times, unemployment benefits only can be collected for 26 weeks. New York already has extended that to 59 weeks. Mr. Paterson wants to make benefits available for up to 72 weeks.

He's wisely willing to do what some governors won't, namely tap into available federal funds to help 56,000 New Yorkers stave off potential disaster.

That's how many unemployed workers across the state will run out of their 59 weeks of benefits next month. These are people who need a paycheck, not just a glimmer of hope. Only with such immediate assistance can most of them await with any sense of comfort what Mr. Obama promises — particularly more jobs and investment in alternative energy and more educational opportunities.

April 16,2009 Gov. Patterson put in to legislation that New York State unemployment benefits be extended from 13 to 20 weeks . The N.Y.S.unempl  extension will run out by mid May and 56,000 and another 8,000 will have exhausted their benefits. The people who are unemployed stated the news paper article should contact their local Assemblyman or woman and tell them to vote for the extension because of the need for this in N.Y.S. The paper also stated  other states have gotten 72 and some even 79 weeks of benifits. I urge all New Yorkers whose unemployment benefits that will end call your local contact and tell them to vote for the extension that Gov. Patterson smartly knows will be needed for thousands of New Yorker"s will need. Mary (Rochester N.Y.

It depends on which state you live in. In Illinois you get 59 weeks and an additional 13 weeks if you qualify. Check with your states Unemployment website.

It has in the State of New York.

It all depends on which state you live in, and what the unemployment,
rate is in that state. The higher the rate, the longer the extensions
