The functional organizations have advantages over the other organizations because they have greater degree of specialization, operational efficiency and control. On the other hand, there are some disadvantages of the functional organizations which cannot be ignored. The major drawback of functional organizations is the multiple command in the organization. This lowers the innovation and creativity in the organization. Secondly, because of the centralized command, the problems of coordination between the departments are always there. Thirdly, functional organizations do not properly define the responsibilities of the employees. Moreover, employees may get fed up of the regular and repeated roles therefore, their overall performance is lowered.
