Obama changed that.  Now you pay taxes on the first $2400 on unemployment that you make.

So at the state level there are no tax breaks on unemployment. I didn't see any, but wanted to make sure I haven't missed anything. Thank you for you info

The 2400 break is passed on to state taxes because you use the federal adjusted gross figure as the starting point for doing your state taxes.

That is not necessarilty true. In a number of states, federal tax is not deductable. Check with the tax foundation.

Wrong, you take 2400 dollars off the unemployment income that is not taxable.  The rest you are taxed on.  Luzan is wrong.
