Are you expected to TIP at an owner/operator business? (Barber shop where the owner cuts your hair, food truck where the owner makes and serves the food)

I usually tip the woman that cuts my hair and she owns the business but I haven't ever tipped anyone on a food truck before as they were always over priced any way ! Guess it just depends on the business and service.

Depends on the culture. I don't tip when I pick up a "To Go" meal so why should I tip a Hair Stylist? . . . Maybe because I am a bit more hands on and intimate with the Hair stylist. They wash my hair, they engage in conversation that can include family discussion. So because of this, I feel a bit closer to the Hair Stylist, and want her to know she is appreciated. Hence the tip.

I haven't seen the need to give a tip to someone who is providing an expected service where very limited or general business transaction conversation is the norm. I am assuming that they are pricing their services to compensate themselves as I would. If, however; they have gone far above and beyond normal protocol in the services, I see no issue with giving them a bump on the credit card or check . . . As I rarely have cash on hand to use.
