Canada's Employment Equity Act requires employers to id and eliminate employment barriers for women, people with disabilities, Aboriginal peoples, and visible minorities.  An example an employment barrier would be a building that is inaccessible to those using wheelchairs because this creates a physical barrier to those with disabilities. Another example might be practices that make employees uncomfortable like holding staff meetings at inappropriate venues.  Employers are required to take these things into consideration and act appropriately whilst also practicing good hiring practices which includes asking all job applicants the same set of interview questions and advertising widely such that the job specifications reach all manner of possible candidates.
