The difference between merchant wholesalers and agents and brokers are, merchant wholesalers are independent distributors who take legal possession, or title, of the goods they distribute (McGowen, 2010). Agents and Brokers are also independent distributors who do not take title of the goods they distribute, even though they may take physical possession on a temporary basis before (McGowen, 2010).

A merchant wholesaler is a person, who purchases products
and then sells them to customer and a broker is a third party between buyer and
seller.
