Don't necessarily agree that budgets are important, and can in fact be detrimental stifling creativity and potentially give an adversarial board of director or risk adverse Sr. Manager a tool to destroy worthy ideas. One must be careful on building a budget, and consider carefully how to use and expose such a spreadsheet, and think through, for their company, why a budget is important.
