I am due to begin receiving early retirement social security benefits and have already applied since the unemployment benefit expiration.  Now the unemployment benefit has been extended again.  I understand you can receive unemployment at the same time you are receiving soc ial security but there are rules and limits that apply to "additional earnings" .  Your social sec benefits can be taxed in part or reduced if your monthly "income" exceeds $1080 for the remainder of 2010. The limits change every year.  My question, for tax purposes and in keeping with social security rules, is unemployment benefit considered "earnings" in this regard.  (Unemployment benefits are themselves taxable)

All states have different rules on this..but in most states it will not affect your UI benefits.
In my state this is what they say on my UI web site...." Social Security Retirement benefits do not affect your unemployment benefits"
