My opinion.. If he or she has been working for you for a while I would sit down and talk to that person, maybe a probation period in which that person can not screw up in the least, with termination being the end result if he does. Or maybe a few days of suspension, not paid, to emphasize how serious and close you are to letting him go. That'll also help him understand that he is replace-able. If those two things don't work, and he or she is still acting up, then out the door they go. If the employee is new, then they should know to be on their best behavior especially when starting a new job. Out they go also. Point blank, if he or she is costing you money, then he or she doesn't need to be making money.
