Form 4868 is used to gain an extension of between four to six months in the filing of forms 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, 1040NR and 1040NR-EZ. There are certain provisions that have to be met in order to be eligible. For instance Form 4868 has to be filed on the due date of returns and the exact amount of tax due for the year 2006 has to be mentioned in the form.
