A "medium of exchange" as Ancient Hippy said.

Also a "store of value."  (But watch out for inflation.)

Hippy summed it up best. It's an exchange medium.

Of course, it means different things to different people. Politicians really have absolutely no concept of it's real meaning. It was Donald Trump's predecessor, George W. Bush, who said, "We've tripled the amount of money. I believe it's increased from $50 million to $185 million."

“Money is for a protection,” says the Bible. (Ecclesiastes 7:12) Because it pays for food, clothing, and shelter, money serves as a protection against the hardships associated with poverty. Indeed, in a material way, money can buy practically anything. However, unless you are careful in budgeting and spending it, money can quickly ‘make wings for itself and fly away.' (Proverbs 23:4, 5)
