You may not believe this, but I have NEVER used an ATM.

No, I'm not technologically retarded -- I do all my banking on line -- but I simply don't have the need for them. Once a month a visit the credit union and make a withdrawal to cover expenses and my credit card, funds transfer and, occasionally, cheque book, cover the rest.

But, if I DID use an ATM I would certainly count the money. It's foolish not to do so.

I always count money I receive ... Whether from an ATM, a teller, a cashier, etc.  How else do you know you received the correct amount?

Yes, because I'm Jewish.

Yes, because I don't want the ATM fiddling me, you know what they're like.

Still, I feel the top for anything suspicious, (cameras) check the card reader, and put my hand over the keys when typing my number as instructed, the whole process shouts "distrust."

Sure .... Machines are capable of errors.  Whether it's a person or ATM, it's my responsibility to make sure I received the correct amount.

Who carries cash anymore?

If you're in a position that you have to use cash as currency, you probably don't have very much of it to begin with, so it is wise to be certain you're not getting less.
