The regulators often decide the minimum disclosure requirements. A good customer friendly company can go beyond such minimum requirements and provide more useful/helpful information. Many proactive manufacturing companies do this.

The public. It the people want to know exactly what went into making and item and were the materials came from then that's what info should be provided
