There are three main types of Modems available in the market these days. These are:
- Hardware Modem: A Hardware Modem is actually capable of handling all kind of communication by itself. The computer will only have to tell the modem the number to be called, the time of call and call ending. They are used with DOS, Windows, Linux etc.
- Controller Less Modem: A Controller Less Modem is the one that does all the data controller functions in the software. It is cheap in price and can be easily upgraded.
- Software Modem: Is a kind of modem where the data pump and also the data controller are removed from the mode, and emulated inside the computer. It now has the basic circuitry to connect the phone to the computer network.
