Actually, if you are enrolled on his insurance currently, most insurance companies require a death or divorce certificate before removing any dependents (in this case spouse) from the insurance plan. They have a legal responsibility to continue coverage once it is given (signed up) and cannot just drop you due to the participant 'requesting' it if you are currently enrolled and eligible. In the case of my husband, he could not remove his Ex from insurance without a valid divorce decree certificate. It is not as easy as one thinks, and in many cases it is impossible to take a spouse off insurance if you are still married.
He most certainly has that right in most cases.
After all, there is no law that makes it manditory for a spouse to buy health insurance for his/her mate.

Yes we had to do this to defray costs
Yes, he can. Now, is this something you want him to do because you can get health insurance cheaper on your own? because why would he do this if it's not something that you didn't want him to do. When my wife started working at the same place as I did, I took her off my insurance because it was cheaper for us both to have our own individual health insurance than to go with the family plan.
