In today's society, most countries have laws which protect all people from any form of discrimination. With regards to the elderly, there are laws which govern accessibility of everything from computer interfaces to supermarkets. Every care is taken in an effort to ensure that the idea of equal opportunities for all prevails.

When working with the elderly, it is important to not treat them as any different from anyone else. Never assume they are incapable, but do offer help where it may be needed, or when asked.

If you are interested in promoting equal opportunities for the older generation, you may want to look into charitable activities. There are plenty of charities which raise money to help provide those who are disabled through age with opportunities to get on and live their lives. You may want to consider volunteering in homes that care for elderly people, or taking a job in a workplace that deals with the affairs of the older generation. There are companies who choose to take advantage of the elderly for financial gain; you could look into working for an organization that aims to prevent this from happening.

Working as a carer for the elderly is a great way to promote equal opportunities in individual lives, and you can make a real and massive difference to the people you work with. Charity work is a great way to campaign for the wider population - there's nothing to stop you from doing both!
