There are various different forms of conflict, from a simple argument though to war, and each type of conflict has its own level of severity. As the severity of the conflict grows, so to do the disadvantages. Any possible advantages of a conflict may also relate to the scale of conflict too.
Here's a little more information on what I'd say are the pros and cons of conflict:
The disadvantages of conflict
1. Stress
Conflict can raise stress levels, and it can often make a person heated and angry, resulting in frustration. Stress can impact health and make you feel low too - which is one reason that many people choose to resolve conflicts at the earliest possible opportunity.
2. Low Productivity
Conflict at work or in the home can lead to low productivity. Many people are unable to concentrate or get simple tasks done when they are under the stress of conflict.
3. Low Morale
Many unresolved conflicts can lead to low morale with people feeling helpless about resolving their conflicts. It can also make a person lose their self esteem and feel generally low in mood.
4. Anger
A dangerous aspect of conflict is that it can cause people to become angry. If the conflict is not resolved the anger could spiral out of control and the situation could get worse which is why it is encouraged to sort out conflicts at the earliest.
4. No Peace
Conflict is the opposite of peace, and it is never a good idea to let a conflict go unresolved. Peaceful relations and compromise can solve conflict, and often lead to increased productivity and less anger and resentment.
Advantages of conflict
There are not many advantages to conflict - however if you are having a disagreement about a topic, you may find that conflicting ideas present new ways of thinking.
