The term 'brand line' is a marketing term used to describe all the products sold under a single brand name.

Brand lines can fall into various different categories, with a category extension being one example of this.

What are brand lines?
To fully understand the term 'brand line', you may first want to look into the origin of the word brand:

Branding was an idea first used by cattle farmers, so they could tell which cow belonged to whom. In a marketing sense, a brand fulfills a similar purpose.

It tells the whole world who's responsible for making the product available, and it also endows the product with all the attributes associated with the lifestyle and values that the brand name or image represents.

In terms of products, branding can be used to release a series of product lines onto the market.

These products would be linked by having the same brand association - so that everyone in the world would be able to recognize them as related items, because they bear the mark of the same brand (even if the products themselves weren't directly related to each other).

For example, a Coca Cola bottle and a Coca Cola football are two completely different products but, by placing them in the same brand line, the Coca Cola company can endow the same brand values to both products.
