This is one of the most popular questions to be asked in a job interview, and you will are likely to be asked it when applying for most roles...
In the question, the term 'relevance' is used. This is key to answering the question affectively. The employer is giving you the opportunity to give examples of the experiences you have had that pertain to the job role, not just everything on your CV.
Talking about your relevant experience
The question is application specific, so it will be hard for me to give examples of things you can say as good answers will vary depending on the position you are applying for, and past experienced you have had.
However there are a few basic guidelines you could follow:
- Start with any previous jobs that you have had that have links to this one. Explain what your roles were in this job and what responsibilities you were given.
- Work experience is also attractive to employees as it shows your willingness to learn new skills. Explain what you have learnt in any of these roles and how you feel it will help you in the job you are applying for.
- Next talk about any qualifications you have that will help you in the role. Don't just reel off all your grades but think about modules you took in specific subjects and how these may be relevant to the position.
I hope this helps, and good luck in any interviews you have!
