The length of time it takes to receive an unemployment check after you claim varies from state to state. For most people, it takes two to four weeks. Some people have waited for up to two months before their check arrived. You will most likely receive your check faster if you complete the online form and prove that you are searching for a job. If you agree to take a position if the unemployment offices can find one, it could speed up your waiting time. Be aware that there is a one week period after your paper work is received that you will not be paid for. You should receive a check weekly after the first one.

Be aware that if you agree to take a job that the agency finds for you, the job must be accepted. If you do not accept this job, they can technically cut off your benefits. Be sure that the agency knows your skills and past experience. They are required to find employment that matches your abilities and areas you have worked in previously. For example, if you were an IT consultant, they aren’t going to find you a fast-food job. If they do offer you are job that you are under or over qualified for, you can contest it. The amount of money you receive in your check will be based on the income you had before you applied. It is more difficult for the agency to find higher levels of work.

The economy at the moment is bad, and it is often difficult to cope with. Thousands of people are losing their job, so you aren’t the only one. Any delays in receiving your check may be due to the overload of people applying for unemployment benefits. Good luck with your employment and in the meantime, I hope you receive your check soon.

Takes about 2-3 days depends on how you wanted to receive it. Direct deposit takes two days, check in mail takes three days.

This is ridiculous! How do you file for benefits when you cannot get through on the phone and you can not file online because there is not a specific online place to file?

You can go to www.benefits.gov and scroll to states and find your state you live and scroll down until you find unemployment filing claims that will direct you to that website
