Yes, the American Home Shield warranty can be tax deductable. It's a Home Protection Plan (not to be confused with your homeowner's insurance policies) which generally covers the breakdown of appliances, plumbing and electrical issues inside your property.

Usually the plan covers the following items: Air conditioning, dishwashers, garbage disposal, and water heaters as well as inside plumbing issues, ceiling fans, electrical systems, stove/oven, microwaves, telephone wiring, washers and dryers. Some Home Warranty and Home Protection Plans cover pool systems and spas as well.

American Home Shield seems to be the most popular. When a covered item breaks down, you can request service by calling 1-800-776-4663 to speak with an AHS customer service representative or visit us online at www.ahsservice.com. It is a 24/7 service. After your service request is received, one of the approved and insured contractors will contact you to schedule a time to diagnose your problem. A low Trade Service Call Fee, per trade, is due when the contractor arrives to diagnose the problem. Once repair or replacement is complete, and as long as they have your proper email address on file, AHS will send you a follow-up customer satisfaction survey regarding the service performance.

Most plans cost from $250-$400 per year, with a deductible from $45-75 per repair. Often you can add a ‘pool pump’ for around $15 more.

Other reliable companies who offer similar plans are Choice Home Warranty and Nationwide Home Warranty.

But BEWARE! There are companies out there that are pure scams. National Home Protection seems to be the latest, now with frozen assets and a New York State Attorney suing them.
