They already received it once but most has actually been paid back. They seem to be in the black now and our economy doesn't need to give them any more. Besides, the people would go nuts if they gave them money again!
I will never understand the concept of how bad management should be rewarded. Granted these companies are large employers .. But .. There should be some level of accountbility for these companies to manage their business like any other business .. And not extort money out of the government because they have so badly mismanaged the entire industry.
They should be held accountable for the mistakes they make in the quality of their products (which often result in not just recalls, but costly loss of life and injury lawsuits), the salaries the CEO's make in relation to their profits, their management in general.
We had a situation in the UK where poor products, and poor processes led to the demise of the wholly British-owned car manufacturing industry. From the second largest in the world to zip in 30 years. Various companies were bailed out, but it didn't work in the end. In France, the government-controlled company Renault had similar problems (and at one time, was losing as much money every week as British Leyland did in it's entire history). But (and it's a big but), thanks to a HUGE (and probably very illegal) bailout, Renault still exists - and the cars are still no end of c**p - but they have an industry, and gainfully-employed, tax-paying workers. And, one suspects, a pride in a substantial slice of their industry.
Bailouts have their place.
Only GM and Chrysler received bailout money the last time, in 2008. Ford did not need the bailout money but ensured a line of credit in case they needed it in the future. Ford survived on their own.
Fear less, you're a few years too late with this Q.
