Once you have typed or written your application, you can submit it through different channels. The most dependable and efficient channel is through email in today' world. Bosses look at email at all times during day or night and even when they are travelling or are in meetings. Hence this is probably the quickest way to bring your leave application to his notice. However, I will highly recommend that you mark the email as acknowledgement due such that you get an email when he opens your leave application. This way you can be sure that he has read your email.
If you do not use email as a mode of communication, you can leave a handwritten or typed note with his secretary and follow up later to find out if your leave has been approved.
