The chart which show the repeating properties of the elements is called the Periodic (or repeating) Table.

Did you know that elements are the basic form of matter and when they were discovered,  Chemists - who love to organise things  - tried to put them in order and to look for repeating patterns in them.

When they knew about 60 - one Russian Scientist, call Dmitry  Mendeleyev came closest to sorting their properties, but it wasn't until they discovered the structure of the atom that they were finally able to make this table or (chart) below.

Looks cool - doesn't it?

There are 112 elements (and some more unnamed ones) and it

is one of the most useful tools in Chemistry. It tells us lots of things about elements like -

  • what their atomic number is
  • what their nuclear composition is
  • how they are arranged around other elements and
  • helps us predict how they will react with other elements

If you want to learn more,  I've included a good video for anybody who's interested in Chemistry.  Enjoy learning!
