I think it is absolutely ridiculous. Especially since the cost of a barrel of oil has dropped, there is absolutely no reason for it except selfishness of those making money from it. My parents recently have bought a Toyota Prius, the Hybrid model. It is amazing. It only takes her $12 - $16 dollars to fill her gas tank every 2 weeks. This of course is in Canadian funds. She drives it everyday in the city. Back and forth to work 5 times a week. Groceries, shopping, visiting friends, appointments. She's always on the go. The hybrid makes all the difference. They gave me the van they had before, so now once they have filled up their $16 dollars at the end of the 2nd week, I've already fill up the van $50 - $60 dollars, twice to do the same mileage! Gee thanks Mom and Dad. About the gas and the Hydro through, it really is inevitable, as if the government finds one way to give our money back, they find another way to take it again. No wonder the cost of living is increasing so quickly!
People have taken the previous low cost for gas for granted for years in this country. We are a wasteful culture. I believe the higher gas prices will help everyone to conserve and not be wasteful. Same with higher energy prices - maybe people will now turn off their lights instead of leaving them on when no one is in the room. And put on a sweater before turning up the heat. Also, people eat out too often and it's very costly. Eat in and cook your food from scratch.
I hit the Dollar store here in town before I go to the grocery store. Our dollar store has many fresh fruits and veggies, plus canned goods, cookies, drinks, etc. And nothing over a dollar.
I run all my errands the same day, or try to. If I need to go to the post office, grocery store, get gas, I plan it all in one day's outing.
Cook like the Chinese do by adding a small portion of meat to the meal with the remainder consisting of noodles and veggies.

Nothing that has been said is wrong, but who is the gov. Or anyone else to tell us to stay home because of gas prices your paycheck goes for gas to go to and from work, and tell us we need to shop for food at the dollar store which is not fresh, the dollar store takes it food from other stores that is expired therefore it is near spoiled etc. Bush is not eating like that plus we are footing the bill, that is why he is allowing others in our country to do jobs for little pay, like hourly wages are about the price of a gallon of gas but they supply them with food stamps, housing help, and they have a baby weekly it seems. Those that are true American can get nothing because we ask to be paid what the job is worth and can't get no assistance either, one day America will have a whole new look and will have a new name, Others own two and three cars with tags from other states, all their cars take up a whole block. We are told your auto has to be registered in the state in which you live. Your input is welcomed.Peace
My thoughts, like many other people, are how am I going to be able to keep up with these rising prices.. I'm not sure that anything is being proven, other than many, many people can no longer pay for gasoline, heating fuel, electricity, or foods that are healthy. I've been hearing that more and more people are unable to afford fruits and vegetables, dairy foods, and other foods that are more healthy fare. We have to cut back on driving, proper foods, and try to get by with our heat turned down, and air conditioning turned up. We're all in this together, but I hope something changes for the better, soon.
It is like what bgirl525 just said above. I do feel bad for those refugees that come into our country because they are being abused and threatened by their own country. But look they do get help from our government with housing, food, clothing, health care, etc. But when a hard working family gets their annual salary decreased do to the economics and they asked help from the government for help and they get denied because they still are making an income, it is a lot less from what they were getting, and granted the wife is collecting ssi do to an injury so she can't work to help support the family. What is a person to do when they are at the ends of their rope and the good old USA refuse to help their own but yet help those who country is threatening them so they come here to take away from the family who was born and raised in this country. I think that it is not fair at all.
