There are two major types of journal, the general journal and the special journal. The four special journals and these are the sales journal, purchase journal, cash receipt journal and the cash disbursement journal. There is also the so called combination journal being used by small firms, which is another type of special journal. However, the firm can not do without the general journal because this is where all other transactions, that can not recorded in special journal, are recorded.
