It seems like President Obama is working hard to pass an extension for unemployment benefit, but is being held up by Republicans and rogue Democrats.

It will go to a vote on Thursday, and 60 votes are needed in the Senate to progress to the next phase, but Democrats currently outnumber Republicans by 55-45 so it will be very narrow!

The plan is to extend benefit to 1.7million unemployed Americans, while barring unemployed millionaires from claiming money too.

Quick update.

As much as it seems Barrack Obama would like to sign the unemployment extension some time in 2014, his counterparts in the Republican party have decided to hold the country to ransom on this issue and have refused to budge on negotiations.

So although the poorest Americans are struggling and losing out, no new extension bill has been signed as of yet!
