Affirmation and complemention are always good to any one.This makes them know that you truely  value the work they do.

Congratulate them if they have performed well. Have a fair crieteria  by which you measure performance - some companies have job-evaluation processes, these are not perfect, and subject to interpretation. Where does your business stand in the market place, what targets have been beaten; have to be surpassed:
As a team, and also as an indivudual within the team. Your presence and support as a manager is also very important.Hiigh performers need incentives!
