You can , and don't be discouraged by idiots making comments if your employed you can't collect. These people are obviously not feeling what we are going through , they most likely are employers not wanting people to collect. Here in California we have a form called a reduced income statement, I am a supervisor ,and was discouraged sharing this info to my workers so they don't file a claim . The employer has to sign off on this form in order for you to make up the days or hours to make you whole again. Even I was taking hours off until I found this info, don't be discouraged try it .

Hi,

I am an employer in california.  we have cut work hours to 30 per week also many employees have been cut from 40 to 32 hours per week.  we have also laid off employees and cut salaries.

my question is can the employees with reduced hours apply for unemployment to supplement the working hours?  I am in the process of completing a workshare program.  I need to know this info now.  I am making many calls to the edd but not response.

When I started my job a year ago today my hours were 9am to 6pm. Then they got changed to 9:15 to 6:15. That was ok. Then another employee showed up then we had to share hours. Even that was ok. After awhile she went on maternity leave and someone filled in for her. She came back from maternity leave and the person who filled in for her stayed there, and now there is three of us. Suddenly, I'm not working much nearly as much as I was when I first started. It seems like the other two employees are getting more than there fair share of hours. One employee quit, and now there's two of us. The other employee is getting more hours than me.I don't think that's fair. Now I am "on call" more frequently than the other employee. So my question is- Can I file for unemployment if my hours are getting reduced at work?

Yes, this is in California. For other states contact your EDD.

www.edd.ca.gov of Reduced Earnings
The DE 2063 is a form used by employers to certify their employees for partial benefits. Employers can print and complete the Internet version for submission to EDD. The Chinese version is a sample and is to be used as a guide when completing the English version. Please review the DE 4209, Completion Instructions for Notice of Reduced Earnings for more information on partial claims. Also review our FAQ.

Hi, I live at Ky, I work at least 25-30hrs a wk at retail store  and this is my only job, Now, they cut my hrs to 4 hrs every two weeks. Getting $25 take home from your pay check every 2 weeks is not worth it, not mentioning the 5 miles distance from my place. Can I file the unemployment.

If you are still working full time, you will not be able to collect unemployment compensation benefits. If your hours were also cut, then you may be eligible to receive partial benefits. If this is the case, then file a claim immediately and ask to be backdated the past four weeks you had fewer hours.

Yes, you can work and claim unemployment at the same time. However, the amount of the two combined cannot be more than you were drawing in unemployment alone. Say you were getting $250 per week in UI. At your job you begin to make $175 a week. Your weekly UI will decrease to $75 so the combined total does not exceed $250. If you make more working per week then you do in UI benefits, you cannot draw on unemployment.

From my state (MA) here is an answer: My work hours have been reduced. Am I eligible to claim unemployment benefits?
If your schedule of working hours is reduced, you are typically eligible. You can receive a full benefit for weeks when there is no work or a partial benefit for weeks when there is less than the normal full-time schedule. Generally, you must experience a reduction of at least 1/3 of your hours/earnings in order to receive even a minimal benefit but a reduction of that much or more will usually qualify for receipt of some benefit. The greater the reduction the higher the payable benefit. Your actual eligibility cannot be determined until you file a claim.

I work partime & average 29.5 hours or more a week, however my boss has been cutting my hours down to under 20 per week for over a month e.g. I have only 12 hours next week I cannot survive on this.

I live in Texas & started to file online for a benefit but as I went through the process there was no mention of being able to collect for reduced hours.

Can you please tell me where on the texas workforce commission a person in my situation can file.

You can file for partial unemployment, due to reduction of hours at are involuntary, through no fault of your own. You have to keep in mind that the WEA (weekly excessive amount) does not exceed more than what you can earn for the week to eligible. For example if your WEA is $450 and you work less than 40 hrs, but still earn $500, you will NOT be eligible because you went over the WEA.

Yes.I have collected partial unemployment before when my hours were reduced to part time in NJ.I don't know if other states are different. You can call your unemployment office or go to your local office to enquire. The claim is subject to PRIOR years earnings so if you didn't work the last 15 months, you may be out of luck.Try it.The worst they can say is "no",right?

No you can't until you are unemployed. If you have to quit job then you must have a solid reason for quitting it. You should not left it by your own mistake.

You can't get unemployment benefits unless you get laid off or quit for just cause. You can get partial benefits if you go back to work part time.
