If you are unsure about a money order that you are due to receive and want to verify it, you can do this very easily. It is an easy process if it is from the United States Postal Service, as all you need to do is to go on their website and contact them directly to confirm the verification. However, if it is from a different company that you may be unfamiliar with, it is advised that you check on the website of the service and see if there are any operators or other assistants that you can speak to. If there is not a sufficient amount of information to confirm the verification of the money order and if there are no contact details, it could be advisable to decline the money order until you receive more information. This is why it is always in your best interest to verify a money order so you do not become a victim of a scam.

As with any offers and requests that may be emailed to you or sent in the post, you should always verify a money order. You do not want to accept something this isn’t going to benefit you or have your interests in mind. It may also be a good idea to not accept any money orders that you may receive that aren’t from the United States Postal Service. Any other companies and services may have underlying terms and conditions that could have a negative effect on you. So don’t risk losing money when all it takes is a simple phone call or a casual website browse!

I received this email from a Martin Wood, who wanted to purchase an item I had posted on Craigslist.  He said he was on vacation in London and wanted to send a money order through his assistant.  He wanted to know when I deposited the check.  In a later email he said that the money order had been sent, but for too much.  He said for me to deposit the money order and send the remaining amount to the moving company.  Thankfully I had seen like transactions and Craigslist warns against money order and across international line transactions.

I am in a similar situation only the name used is Wilson Adams. The rest of the story is exactly the same. I'm glad I checked here first. I just verified all three of them with Moneygram and all three were listed for different amounts than I had and were cashed already. Thanks for this post everyone. You all saved me a world of headache. That and my local Wal Mart wouldn't cash one of them when I tried.Lol

I received 4 money orders and able to cash it via Bank of America. 7 days later, it turn out returned to me, in which the money orders are counterfeit. I lost my money. I am the victim. This happen on Jun and july 2009.

I get my money orders from online boss, who let me work at home and do the stupid cheating things, in fact they just want your money. They try to let you cash the money orders, and let you wire back the money to them via Western Union, etc.

Be careful.

If you want to verify a United States Postal Service money order go to there web site www.usps.com look for there phone number call it follow the props and it will tell you what you need to know to verify if its real or not and just to confirm speak to an agent and they will look up the serial number and let you know right then and there if its good or bad.
For money orders other than USPS just go to the web site of the name of the money order and you can verify it there as well
There is no need to go though the stress and lost of funds just check it out on line, the info you need is right in front of you;.

I found this online:

Banks have to cash a money order. If it turns out to be fake, you are responsible for the checks/money orders. When or if they bounce, you owe your bank the money. The bank may be able to take it from your accounts or sue you to recover it. In some cases authorities could bring charges against the victims because it may look like they were involved in the scam and knew it was counterfeit.

Look on the money order for a 1-800 number or look online for the mo company. for example if it is a money gram mo, go to moneygram.com there should be a way to verify it there. If you go to google.com, you should be able to pull up any website that the money order is from and there site should either have a place to verify it or a number you can call.

I will rather go back to the source of document, i.e. USPS in my case.

I lost my money due to bank cashed the counterfeit money order (USPS MONEY ORDER) to me, and i sent my $ out.
