This article is not very helpful. I really would like a serious answer of what a median amount is in the US. And what is expected. Do you force them to save some of it or is it all spending money. Remember if we give them 50 dollar at 12 what do we give them when they are 17?

It all depends on the person and the parents. If you have a good child, they're bound to get more money, also depending on how rich the family is, and if you have a quite distracting and naughty child then you should give them that much as pocket money should be a privelige and a priority, no a given right, so I would say £5-£20 or $10-$20

For a twelve year old, first they need a list of chores to do.
If you have that set up already, I don't know.
I am hoping you are speaking like awawa asked dollars or pounds
I only know the use of dollars.
I would suggest both spouses sit and talk about it, if this is a single parent household, then I think you need to also talk with the 12 yr old,
Let them know what you expect for extra pocket money. You have to be consistent with this. Also I don't know where you live, but start out per week, Depends on you're child. Are they active in school, etc.
Always keeps the line of continuation open. Then see after a few weeks and you think, the amount is doing okay, then stay at the amount you all agreed upon. If they help out without you asking then I would say you have a good kid, and you can always give them a little from time to time.

I'm 12 and I get £5 per week therefore £20 per month and my sisters 8 and she gets £2.50 so geting £10 per month. But me and my sister don't pay for our cloths or anything like that apart from sweets and small presents for friends and family. I feel very happy with what I'm given however I do have a friend who gets £400 per month but I don't know whether she has to pay for cloths and so on but I do think that £400 is a bit over the top compared to £20 a month.

I personal believe that $50 is a little too much for a twelve year-old. I would say around $20 - $30 would be more suitable, of course though that depends on the amount of work he/she does around the house.

I would say it depends on what chores the 12 yr old does to get their pocket money but average seems to be 20-40 per month.

I Get I don't Really Know Cause I Do I Lot Of Work I'm going To Be 13 in october and I pay for every thing! Not because I have to but because I want to I don't spend it all  I buy birtday presents for my family and christmas out of the money I earn.
Most of the things I do are taking the dog out on walks and to the garden clean out my hamsters cages , washing up , wash, dry and iron , buy my own shopping/go shopping for mum and walk home and hover the house , cleaning my room and on top of this I get 10-12 pices of homework a week! I didnt get forced to do this I said I would it was all my idea and I love doing it not for the money just because this is what you have to do when you get your own home and I feel more grown up for it and what I spend it on is the school bus, clothes (I have to get adult clothes more expensive) I bought my own tv    for my room , got an ipod (but it got stolen :( ) and buy stuff for my animals and buy my mum little prezzies all the time cause I love her and I save money back on average I get about 30 pounds a month and I think this is what every child/teen should do hope this is helpful!

Well, being that I'm 12 and I have 1,176, I personally don't think that 30 or 50 dollars is enough because after 12 comes 13 and by 13 children have lives! So parents I think should give money to their children for doing chores because it helps them see how to handle money.

I WOULD SAY AT LEAST $25.00 A MONTH , AND INCREASE IT MORE IF THEY DO MORE CHORES AROUND THE HOUSE , WITHOUT YOU ASKING .. LIKE FOR EXAMPLE : 1.. GIVE LITTLE HINTS , LIKE I WISH THE GARBAGE WAS TAKING OUT 2.. I WISH THE LAUNDRY WAS PUT IN THE DRYER 3.. I WISH THE CLOTHES WERE FOLDED ..BUT BEFORE YOU GIVE THESE HINTS. MAKE SURE TO TELL THE CHILD , WHAT TO EXPECT ..CAUSE THEY NEED TO START SOME RESPONSIBILITY .. WHEN I WAS 13 , I WAS COOKING AND CLEANING , EVEN THOUGH I AM A MALE ..
